Meet the Heart Behind

Empower Her DC

We are a passionate team of women committed to empowering the next generation of leaders. Together, we bring diverse expertise, lived experiences, and a shared vision for creating brighter futures.

Bintou

I am a Senior Critical Care Nurse based in Leeds, with over 20 years of experience caring for the most vulnerable patients in acute and high-dependency settings. At 45, I balance my demanding career with the greatest joy of my life: being a proud mother to four wonderful children. My work in critical care has taught me resilience, compassion, and the value of seeing the whole person behind every diagnosis. Beyond the ward, I am deeply committed to my local community and dedicated to advancing opportunities, representation, and leadership for Black women in healthcare and beyond. I am especially passionate about health promotion, with a particular focus on women's mental health-advocating for better support, greater awareness, and safe spaces for women to prioritise their wellbeing. Whether through clinical practice, mentorship, or community work, I strive to lift others up and make a meaningful difference.

Binta Jobe

My name is Binta Jobe. As a young woman and dedicated Registered Nurse in the NHS, my journey has always been driven by a passion for serving others. I am privileged to care for patients with compassion, professionalism, and dedication. Nursing has taught me the value of empathy, integrity, teamwork, and standing up for those who need a voice. Beyond my healthcare career, I am equally passionate about empowering women and encouraging their active participation in politics in The Gambia. I believe that when women are given opportunities to lead, communities become stronger, decisions become more inclusive, and future generations benefit. I am committed to supporting and inspiring women to step forward with confidence, take on leadership roles, and contribute meaningfully to the development of our nation. My vision is to help build a society where women and men work together as equal partners in shaping a better future. Whether I am caring for patients or advocating for greater participation of women in public life, my mission remains the same: to serve with compassion, lead with integrity, and create positive change for my community and my country.
